The municipality of Brenna comprises three villages: Górki Wielkie, Górki Małe, Brenna. The oldest village is Górki Wielkie, listed in the gazetteer of the Duchy of Cieszyn as early as in 1305. Throughout ages the village belonged to the noble families of Górecki and Marklowski, to the Duchy of Cieszyn, and, from 1922, to the Kossak family. The first reference to Brenna in historical records dates back to 1490; however, the content of the reference shows that the village must have been established and populated much earlier.
The abundant history of the municipality of Brenna can be seen through numerous monuments scattered around its territory. It is worth coming here as in our municipality we protect our cultural heritage and carefully preserve what our ancestors created and left. Here you can find a number of wooden architecture monuments, churches and wayside shrines, the buildings of a former alcohol distillery, the manor house of Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska, or the museum of bread „Chlebowa Chata” (The Cottage of Bread) where you can find old devices that were once used to cultivate and process grain, and learn about the traditional bread baking process, as well as the process of curd cheese and butter making.
Come, listen to and sing highlander tunes together with our regional folk bands. Come and see our handicraft, pottery and laces, and above all – our unique wood sculptures carved by folk artists. You definitely must try the traditional highlander cuisine – based on what we ourselves cultivate and grow, crude and simple, yet tasty and healthy. Last of all, come and experience our vivid past, our fairy tales, legends, as well as real-life stories told by our guides. Listen to our folktales about vampires, dragons, giants, demons, werewolves, water spirits and the devil who plays the violin…so that you can read the rich tradition of our land as an open book.
